As a representative of the mass media, I watched this movie at the press screening yesterday.
The 1st movie (‘Bad Moms’, 2016) was a hit, as for me: good plot, nice soundtrack and cast (Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell, Kathryn Hahn, Christina Applegate), and what is most important for a comedy, super funny.
Here’s the trailer to remind you of the plot:
What can I say about the sequel, ‘A Bad Moms Christmas’?
I LOVED it!
If you’re tired of preparation for Christmas & New Year and want to relax and have a good laugh, this movie is for you!
Knowing the long list of great films’ sequels, which turned out to be a failure, I was cautiously happy about the ‘Bad Moms’ sequel coming out so as not to jinx. But as it turned out, I didn’t have to worry, and expectations were justified.
‘Bad Moms’ (2016) plot was based mostly on Amy Mitchell (Mila Kunis) and her family. This time, surprisingly, the main place in the story, as for me, Mila Kunis’ Amy shares with Kathryn Hahn’s character – Carla – as 90% of the movie’s funniest parts belong to her. At the screening, people were laughing to tears. Especially, during the scenes at the spa – where Carla works – when she meets Ty (played by Justin Hartley – yes-yes, the one who plays Kevin in ‘This Is Us’).
A great addition to the movie was the invitation of such superstars as Christine Baranski and Susan Sarandon to play Mila Kunis’ and Kathryn Hahn’s on-screen moms. They are incredible and fully transform into their characters. The remaining 10% of the funny moments belong to them.
If you haven’t watched the film yet, don’t expect the plot of ‘A Bad Moms Christmas’ to be too different from the 1st movie. There’re 3 friends tired of their routine life (this time during the winter holidays), who just want to have fun. But this time, they need to deal with their moms (and one dad, played by Peter Gallagher), who have arrived to spend some time with them (and complicate their daughters’ lives a little…or a lot).
Taking into account, the actors’ performance, the Christmas feelings, and the funny moments, I give this movie a firm 8 out of 10. I took 2 points for the lack of a more complicated storyline, compared to the 1st film.
All in all, ‘A Bad Moms Christmas’ is an awesome, very funny movie with an unbelievable cast and a holiday spirit. A quality sequel to the original! Go watch it!
